In line with the upcoming London Olympics, Vogue US featured soccer player Hope Solo, tennis superstar Serena Williams and Olympic medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte on its June 2012 cover.
Aside from fashion editorials with Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls and Arizona Muser, photographer Annie Leibovitz also shot a spread featuring male American athletes vying for the Olympic gold. It is very interesting to note that on a rare occasion, Vogue featured a guy on the front cover flanked by two women who are neither actresses nor models. Though not high fashion, the photo also seems tamer for a fashion cover that some even say it could pass as an issue of a health magazine. Though some critics say that the June cover looks boring, credit should be given to Vogue for their commitment to their Health Initiative.
