For its new leather collection, Bulgari’s will tap its iconic symbol, the Serpenti, to accessorize its pieces.

The Serpenti has undergone several variations since Bulgari introduced the symbol in the 1960’s. It had been made in pure gold, or topped with an assortment of diamonds and other gemstones. For 2012, the symbol will have light gold plated enamel head and green malachite eyes. Each serpent is meticulously crafted by artisans using fired enamel technique popular in the 1950’s, a process involving heating layer after layer of enamel at high temperatures and polishing it to produce a glossy and colorful finish.

The Italian label’s leather collection uses calfskin, Karung snakeskin and a little bit of satin for its shoulder bags, wallets and belts and bracelets. Prices for the collection range from $ 2,000 for shoulder bags to $ 4,600 for the special minaudiere bag.
